Opening the “Illustrating Climatic Change” Tour in Galicia

Opening the “Illustrating Climatic Change” Tour in Galicia

Last week, I had the pleasure of taking part in the opening of the “Illustrating Climatic Change” exhibition tour, organised by the IEM (Instituto de Estudos Miñoráns) in collaboration with the CSIC and Illustraciencia in Galicia. The first stop took place in Pontevedra, where my project on permafrost and the Batagaika crater was exhibited alongside the work of other talented creators.

The inauguration featured a talk by Fernando Valladares from CSIC, introduced by Bruno Centelles, director of the IEM. The exhibition is fully presented in Galician, which makes the project especially meaningful. Bringing scientific content to the local language strengthens its visibility and helps students connect more naturally with the subject.

From the very beginning the team at the IEM treated us with exceptional kindness. Everything felt very human and close, and all the authors are genuinely grateful for the organisation and the care put into the event.

The exhibition will now travel across the region and will be shown in twenty one educational centres until the end of the school year. It is a great opportunity to bring scientific illustration into classrooms and spark curiosity about climate and the environment.

Sharing my work with the local community and talking about how visual storytelling can support climate communication was a truly rewarding moment. I am sharing a few photos from the opening below to capture a bit of the atmosphere.
